What Is Keto Bread?
The keto bread is not different from the normal bread if you look at it or even when you taste it. The main difference is in the ingredients.
For the keto bread recipe, we will be using low-carb sweetener instead of sugar and almond flour instead of wheat flour.
If you are familiar with keto recipes or have already tried some of them you may already have the ingredients in your kitchen.
For instance, grass-fed butter, almond flour, and low-carb sweeteners are very common in keto recipes.
Is Bread Low-Carb?
Bread is completely restricted on the keto diet. It is very high in carbs holding up to 49g of net carbs per 3 oz. While it’s recommended to keep carbs less than 20-50g per day on the keto diet.
However, with this keto bread recipe, we can lower carbs to less than 1g net.
This is possible with the ingredients, especially almond flour which is very crucial for holding the pieces together.
How To Make Keto Bread?
As mentioned before, the recipe is surprisingly simple. If you have the 6 ingredients then you are ready to go.
For the equipment, you will need a hand mixer and an oven. Also, you can use a food processor if you have one.
Once you have the ingredients and the equipment, Let’s see how the keto bread recipe is done.
First, mix almond flour with your chosen sweetener and baking powder using the hand mixer (or food processor). Then add melted butter.
I choose monk fruit as a sweetener but you can also use erythritol. In both cases, it has to be powdered. This means no stevia drops or any other low-carb syrup.
In a large bowl, beat some egg whites with the hand mixer until you form a creamy dough. Then fold in half of that.
Add the other half to the mix and transfer to a baking pan. And that’s it.
The preparation usually takes 5-8 minutes and the bread supplies me for a whole week.
If you don’t want an ordinary keto bread recipe you shouldn’t stick to the basics. There are plenty of options that can make your bread amazing.
We made several iterations to make this recipe possible because we want the fastest and simplest recipe to prepare, but this doesn’t mean you cannot add anything.
First in our list are sesame seeds. They can be a great topping for your bread. They don’t just add to the look but also provide several health benefits.
Other than that, you can also add sweetener to your recipe. With this, you’ll be able to get the same taste like normal bread.
I highly recommend adding a low-carb sweetener because it can make your bread a lot more enjoyable.
However, keep in mind that it should be powdered. This makes the mixing process much easier. This also means, no drops of stevia.
I recommend powdered erythritol or monk fruit because they are a lot sweeter than table sugar and they don’t affect ketosis. This means small portions will do the job.
How To Store Keto Bread?
Preparing your keto bread ahead of time can save you a lot of work and overwhelm. For this reason, storing bread is crucial.
The most important thing about storage is that you must not keep the bread outside at regular room temperature. Just like regular bread, you can keep it in a bread box making sure that it’s firmly closed.
Can you freeze the keto bread? Of course. Freezing prevents the bread from going stale. You can freeze it for months and not worry about it.
However, I like bread fresh. So, I take what I need for a couple of days, put it in a bread box, and freeze the rest.
